As part of a continuing effort to keep the Village of Westbury roadways in their best condition, Mayor Strada and the board of trustees recently reached out to New York State Senator Michael A.L. Balboni for additional financial assistance. The senator responded by securing $250,000 from the New York State Department of Transportation's Multi-Modal Program.
The Superintendent of Public Works Denis Maher and village engineering consultants compiled a rating list of village roads that are in most need of repair or resurfacing. Engineers conducted tests to detect pavement condition and distress levels of road surfaces within the village. Aside from the survey prepared by Sidney Bowne & Son, which found that pavement and concrete curbs throughout the village are in very good shape, Mayor Strada and the board of trustees believe it essential to maintain an ongoing system of improvement over the coming years, noted a representative for the village.
Mayor Ernest Strada stressed the importance of this program, by stating that "Maintenance and improvement are critical to retain the life span of local roadways. Although roads throughout our village are in good condition, some repairs are still necessary and we cannot lose sight of maintaining and upgrading conditions for the future," she said. "With funding assistance provided through Senator Balboni, we can keep our efforts moving forward in full force."
Work on some roads, like Ellison Avenue, has already begun, while other areas will be done in order of priority during the coming months and next fiscal year. Rockland and School Streets are high on the list of priority.
