Officers Protest a 'Cry for Help'
Hundreds of Nassau County jail officers joined forces outside Mineola county offices Aug. 7 chanting and carrying picket signs. The protest was aimed primarily at Sheriff Edward Reilly, who took charge of the East Meadow facility six months ago.

Local Athlete Wins Academic Honors
Jennifer Collier, a 1997 graduate of W.T. Clarke High School in Westbury, was named to the dean's list for the Spring Term at Elmira College. Since entering Elmira, Collier has participated on the Varsity Cheering Team, the Soaring Eagles. With a season that runs from September to April, cheering requires a great deal of practice and dedication. In April, however, all that hard work paid off as the Soaring Eagles captured the first place championship trophy for All Girl Cheer Division II at the National Cheerleading Association Championship at Daytona Beach, FL. During her senior year at Elmira, Collier will be captain of the team.

The Education & Assistance Corporation Golf & Tennis Classic held recently at the North Hills Country Club was a huge success. Everyone had a great time, the course was magnificent and the food spectacular.
