Dr. Florence Kelson was a visionary pioneer in her role as Director of Pupil Personnel in the Westbury Public Schools. She began as a sensitive school psychologist whose impact on the students was great. When she became the Director of Pupil Personnel she developed innovative programs, was active in the community and organized a staff of competent professionals committed to the students of Westbury. The face of pupil personnel services was altered under Dr. Kelson's dynamic leadership. She was a leader who trusted her staff and thus, had a staff whose production was exemplary. She was the matriarch of the Westbury edcuation family in ways that have never been repeated. Her commitment to educatition continued after her retirement. She worked as a hearing officer deciding on the best ways to meet the educational needs of children. She was affiliated with a private school, again developing creative and effective programs. The Westbury School District has missed Dr. Kelson's child advocacy positions and is grateful for the years in which her dynamic leadership created a system that continues to function effectively. She lives on through her works.
