New Senior Housing to Be Built in New Cassel
Through a $1.75 million state grant recently obtained by State Senator Michael Balboni (R/C-Mineola), over $4.5 million has been leveraged for the creation of elderly housing in the unincorporated area of New Cassel. Awarded to the not-for-profit Anna and Philip Kimmel Foundation, who will develop the project, the funding will be used for the construction of Apex Senior Citizen's Housing, which will provide 37 new units for the elderly in the New Cassel community.

The recent discovery of trace amounts of volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) in several of the Westbury Water District's 11 wells has spurred the district to borrow $6,131,900 from the Town of North Hempstead to advance the water system.

Local Karate Students Receive Belt Promotions
Thirty-one students at Master Charles Water's Hwang Karate Studio, including Jimmy Carroll from Westbury, and Stephen Kelly and Laura Rosencrantz from Carle Place, received belt promotions after successfully completing a series of extensive exams. "Our goal at Hwang Karate is to facilitate mental growth, enabling our students to reach their highest potential as human beings," said Charles Water, owner and director.

Westbury Resident Earns Second Varsity Letter
Christopher Sacco, a resident of Westbury and a 1998 graduate of W.T. Clarke High School, was a member of the 2000 Eastern Connecticut State University men's lacrosse program this spring. A sophomore, he earned his second varsity letter in the program.
