As I sit here reading the latest issue of The Westbury Times, I come upon an article about beautifying some of Long Island's most traveled roadways. In this article, it says that Cablevision recently presented a community garden to the residents of the Village of Westbury. That is wonderful. But the problem is that I don't see anyone beautifying Brush Hollow Rd., which is also part of the village.
We have no community garden or sign informing people that they are entering or exiting Westbury, Community for All Seasons. Instead, we have large trucks and vehicles using this road as an extension of the Long Island Expressway. They exceed the speed limit, and drop debris all over the road and don't pick it up. The noise and air pollution is there 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can't open your windows and doors due to the noise and dirt that comes through. It is unbelievable.
I clean debris and garbage from the front of my house and street every day. Yet, no beautification goes on on Brush Hollow Rd. Maybe if the area adjacent to the parkways was beautified with a "Welcome to Westbury" sign, it might discourage people from making it the dumping ground and the eyesore that it is today. We would like to take pride in our area, as well. We are also part of the Village of Westbury.
