(The following letter was sent to Commissioner of Police for Nassau County William J. Willet. It is being reprinted here at the author's request.)
On behalf of Mayor Ernest J. Strada, the board of trustees and all the citizens of the Village of Westbury and the surrounding Westburyites, I wish to take this opportunity to extend to you our sincerest congratulations and best wishes on your recent appointment as commissioner of police for Nassau County.
We know that your selection was based on many years of hard police experience and knowledge of the inner workings of the police department. Your appointment by County Executive Thomas Gulotta is an example of his cost containment reduction without having to alter high-quality police service to the county.
We all have dreams of reaching the stars in our chosen profession, but very few have these dreams come true. Not only have you reached the stars, but you have brought us honor by being the first Westbury resident to achieve this goal in the police department. We are proud of you.
It will be our great pleasure to work with you and the members of the 3rd Pct. Police Department in our daily activities regarding quality of life issues in Westbury.
May God bless you and your family and keep you in good health.
Paul H. Echausse
Deputy Mayor
Commissioner of Public Safety
Village of Westbury
