Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello (R-New Hyde Park) recently urged residents to be counted in the 2000 Census. The United States Census Bureau anticipates that residents will receive their census forms in the mail by April 1.

"I urge residents to participate in the census as the Federal government distributes on an annual basis $185 billion in funds based partially upon data derived from the census," said Nicolello. "It is important for residents to participate in this most important program." Nassau County in 1999 received $88 million in aid, and $25 million in grants from the Federal government.

Residents with questions about the census can call the regional census office at 228-9730 or visit the official web site of the Census Bureau at www.census.gov/dmd/www/2khome.htm.
