St. Brigid's Celebrates Black History Month
The parish of St. Brigid celebrated their Afro-American heritage Feb. 5, at St. Brigid's Church in Westbury. Guest speaker Reverend Lionel Harvey of the First Baptist Church of Westbury was joined by many members of the Westbury and New Cassel communities for an unforgettable evening. Gospel music was provided by the First Baptist Church Choir of Westbury, the L.C. Children's Choir of Westbury, and The Music Community of St. Brigid's. An Afro-American exhibit and much fellowship followed the celebration.

Corbin the Subject of 'Conflict of Interest' Hearings
Whether or not Legislator Roger Corbin (D-Westbury) would have a conflict of interest in voting on key legislation relating to the Nassau Off Track Betting Corp. (OTB) was the subject of the second County Ethics Board hearing held Feb. 18.

Exceptional Westbury Athletes Recognized
The Westbury Boys Varsity Basketball team enjoyed a stellar season, thanks to the dedication of coach Dwight Gibson, assistant coach Reginald Warren, and the consistent drive and enthusiasm of the team. By the conclusion of the annual Reid/Robeson Basketball Classic, held this year Feb. 5 at Westbury High School, the team had 13 victories and only two losses. In addition, one varsity team member, Jumar Gore, was recognized with the Reid/Robeson scholar athlete award along with Girl's Varsity team member Tanya Young.
