Carle Place High School's Varsity Field Hockey team earned its 14th Section VIII Class "C" Championship in the last 15 years. The 1999 team ended their season with an impressive 15-3-1 overall record, playing some of the strongest teams in Nassau County. Head Coach Claire Iglesias and Assistant Coach Karianne Terino did an outstanding job preparing their team for a vigorous, competitive league season and an opportunity to successfully defend their county title for a second consecutive year. The field hockey program seems to be on solid ground as the J.V. team, under the direction of Christine Nagy, went a perfect 15-0. They outscored their opponents 61-8 and posted solid wins over North Shore, Manhasset, Garden City, Baldwin, and Pine Plains, who all have excellent field hockey programs. Our girls are fortunate to have all three coaches, who are Carle Place graduates and members of the school's Athletic Hall of Fame, to inspire them and maintain the tradition of Carle Place field hockey. Their ultimate goal is to get the Frogs back to the New York State Championships. This is a program that has won six New York State Championships from 1983 to 1990.

During the non-league and league season, the varsity outscored their opponents 33-9 and during that stretch of 16 games, only lost to Garden City (two-time New York State Champions: 2-0) and Manhasset (1-0). During the season they beat some very tough opponents such as Pine Plains, Cold Spring Harbor, Baldwin, Manhasset, and New Hyde Park.

During the post season, the Frogs beat Locust Valley 4-1 in the semi-finals and prepared themselves for a rematch with a tough rival, the North Shore Vikings in the county finals. The championship game ended in a 1-1 tie but the Frogs prevailed in a second overtime sudden-victory period, as senior Tri-Captain Anne-Marie McGintee scored the winning goal which enabled the Frogs to earn their second straight Nassau County "C" Title. Although the team lost to a very strong Southampton team in the Long Island Class "C" game held at Hofstra University, the team can look back on their season with a great deal of satisfaction and pride.
