Carle Place High School's varsity girls' volleyball team has once again helped to establish themselves as one of the premier programs in all of Nassau County. This year's team earned another Section VIII/County Championship which represents their sixth in a row. Once a struggling program at Carle Place High School, volleyball is now one of the school's very best.

Because the volleyball program is so strong, the small enrollment school from Carle Place competes in Conference I with the strongest "A" and "B" programs from the rest of the country. Although the team struggled with a 6-6 conference record and played in the very best tournaments in New York State, it prepared them well for the Class "C" competition in the county, as well as the New York State regionals. Under the direction of third year coach Alayna Foy, and with the able assistance of her junior varsity coach Tracey Nelson and Assistant Coach Rafael Chong, the Frogs prepared themselves for another successful post-season competition. The varsity team was composed of two freshman, four sophomores five juniors and just two seniors, which included Captain Brianne Carmody and Julie Bradshaw.
In post season play, the #1 seeded Frogs defeated the #4 seeded Baymen (Oyster Bay) in three straight games. In the finals, held at Nassau Community College, the Frogs faced a challenge from #2 Cold Spring Harbor and beat them in three straight games (15-9, 17-15, 15-9) to earn their sixth Nassau County Class "C" Championship. Although the team lost to last year's defending New York State Champions, Croton Harman High School from Section I, the team can still feel a sense of accomplishment and pride. The girls all worked hard throughout the off-season to improve their individual skills and to make the team highly competitive.
The players below earned special post-season honors:
Brianne Carmody - All-Conference
Jacquie Wicks - All-Conference
Sue Porzelt - All-County
Jennifer Whitley - All-County
Outstanding efforts from Amy Casinover (11), Julie Bradshaw (12), Dani Franzese (11), Melissa Despagni (11), Alicia Curci (9), Natalie Vergata (10), Anne Dunphy (9), Leanne Offermann (10), and Kerri Cromwell (10). The team has a strong nucleus of players returning for the fall 2000 season. Congratulations, girls!
