Thomas F. O'Connor, 68, of Carle Place, died on Dec. 9, 1999. He was born in Brooklyn and attended Brooklyn Tech and Franklin K. Lane High School. He played for the Brooklyn Shamrocks and the Army baseball team while serving in the US Army. He later joined the NY Telephone Co. starting as a splicer's helper and working his was up to a management position. He retired in 1983.
Mr. O'Connor was a volunteer manager in the Carle Place Little League and was president of the league from 1979 to 1986. He then served as a district tournament director. The Little League recognized his contributions by giving out the annual Tom O'Connor Coaches Award for an outstanding player. He was a member of American Legion Post #1718, Carle Place.
Mr. O'Connor is survived by his wife, Doris (nee Dein); his children, Marilyn Tirone, Diane Cortese and Kevin; sisters, Shirley O'Connor and Margaret O'Connor; brother Kenneth; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Cecere Funeral Home, Carle Place. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Hope RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Rose Rossi, of Westbury, died on Dec. 9, 1999. Wife of the late Louis. Mother of Angelo, Theresa Maio and Michael. Grandmother of eight. Great-grandmother of five.
