Senior Anne-Marie McGintee was selected as Carle Place High School's 12th recipient of the prestigious EAB/News 12 Scholar-Athlete Award. News 12's sports reporter Carle Reuter visited Carle Place High School and filmed Anne-Marie at work in the classroom and as a participant in many of her extra-curricular activities. Her special presentation was aired on Channel 12, Dec. 27 during the sports edition with Broadcast Hall of Famer Bob Wolff.
Anne-Marie McGintee's credentials as a scholar-athlete are remarkable. She is currently ranked second of 116 students in the senior class with a weighted GPA of 102.653 which equates to almost a 98 unweighted GPA. She has a combined SAT score of 1270 and was just recently accepted, on early decision, to Princeton University where Anne-Marie hopes to play both field hockey and lacrosse. Anne-Marie is a member of the school's National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mathematics Honor Society, and Tri-M Music Honor Society. She has been recognized at the end of the year Academic Awards ceremony with a dozen different academic awards. As president of this year's student organization, Anne-Marie is involved in many aspects of government and special events sponsored by the student organization.
On the athletic field Anne-Marie has earned All-County and All-New York State honors in field hockey for the past two years. She was a member of the 1999 Long Island Empire State Field Hockey Team during this past summer. As a United States Futures Selection, Anne-Marie was an All-Star selection at the University of Maine ('97), Bentley College ('98), and at Princeton University ('99). She was selected to participate for the National Futures Tournament at the University of Maryland this past July in field hockey. Anne-Marie scored 25 goals and collected 28 assists the past two years to help lead our field hockey team to consecutive Nassau County "C" championships.
As a lacrosse player Anne-Marie McGintee has 62 goals and 66 assists as a sophomore and junior. She has been a four-year starter and earned Honorable Mention All-County honors as a junior. Once again, Anne-Marie was instrumental in helping her team to advance to the county semifinals for the past two seasons. This past summer, Anne-Marie was selected as a participant on the Empire State Girls' Lacrosse Tournament held in Baldwinsville, NY. Currently, she is a four-year starter on the girls' varsity basketball team. Last season, she was voted Most Improved Player. Her leadership skills are obvious to both her peers and coaches which has enabled her to be voted team tri-captain on all three teams.
Anne-Marie McGintee exemplifies every aspect of the EAB/News 12 Scholar-Athlete Award. She possesses a superb work ethic and a real competitive spirit. Congratulations on being selected as an EAB/News 12 Scholar-Athlete. Carle Place High School now has more EAB/News 12 Scholar-Athletes than any other public, and/or parochial high school in either Nassau or Suffolk Counties.
