The Carle Place varsity girls' tennis team finished their season with a respectable 6-4 Conference III B record. Three of the four losses were by one point 3-4, as the Lady Frogs were literally in every match. The team was led by Tri-Captains Denise Caputo, Kate Ascetta and Erin Kane. Under some unusual circumstances, this year's team was coached by Brian Paradine and Stu Raphael. The team was composed of six seniors, four juniors, six sophomores and five freshmen for a total of 21.
This year's squad was led by the second doubles team of senior Kate Ascetta and sophomore Erica Kodila who went "undefeated" with a perfect 10-0 season record. The team's first doubles composed of sophomore Marissa Fernandez and senior Denise Caputo were an impressive 9-1, losing in a close match on the last day of the regular season to division champions East Meadow. The third doubles team led by sophomore Jenna Lyn Zaino and her alternating partners of seniors Erin Kane and Christina Pulschen compiled an outstanding 8-2 record for the fall season. Third singles junior Liz Lo battled her competition all season and won a must match against Oceanside to keep the team's playoff hopes alive. Of the 21 players who were considered varsity players, almost everyone got an opportunity to play in a match or in alternative match play. Sophomores Jennel McHugh and Collen Meade also contributed to the team's overall success. Of course, the toughest competition was faced by our first and second singles, namely Sonja and Silvia Seidel who are seniors and will be lost to the team through graduation.
Coach Raphael would like to announce the girls who earned individual honors as voted upon by the coaches in Conference III B:
All-Conference Player - Kate Ascetta
All-Conference Player - Denise Caputo
All-Division Player - Marissa Fernandez
All-Division Player - Erica Kodila
All-Division Player - Jenna Lyn Zaino
Nassau County Sportsmanship Award - Erin Kane
Congratulations to the entire team and to the All-Conference and All-Division players. The team will look forward to next fall as they return 15 players and will hopefully make a run at a conference championship.
