Top high school harriers will compete at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) Northeast Regional race Nov. 27 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. National '97 Finalist (FLCCC) Danielle Jelley, a senior at W.T. Clarke High School in Westbury will return to compete for a coveted spot on the National team. Jelley placed seventh in the 1997 Northeast Regional. The 5,000 meter seeded race for the girls begins at noon and at 12:30 p.m. for the boys. The course consists of grass, dirt paths and crushed rock.
The top eight boys and girls in the seeded raced qualify for the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals which takes place Dec. 11. For the third year, the National Finals will be held at Disney's Oak Trail Course at Shades of Green in Orlando, FL.
Entering its 21st year, the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships is comprised of four regional 5K races across the country. The Midwest (Kenosha, WI) and South (Charlotte, NC) Regionals will also be held Nov. 27. The West Regional will take place a week later, Dec. 4 in Walnut Creek, CA. Thousands of the nation's top high school runners are expected to compete in the regional meets. Runners competing in the Northeast Regional race will come from Connecticut, Delaware, Washington, DC, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
All high school students (male or female, grades 9-12) are eligible to compete in the Foot Cross Country Championships. Entry forms are available at Foot Locker stores throughout the country or by visiting www.flccc.com.
