I recently had the honor and privilege of running for Nassau County Legislature in the 9th District. Although I did not win the race, I thoroughly enjoyed getting out and meeting many of my fellow residents from this part of Nassau County. Not only was it an education, it was fun.
Although voter turnout across the county was low, I would like to commend the residents of the 9th Legislative District. The 9th District turnout was the highest of any legislative district in the county. The residents of the 9th District should be proud of their commitment to our Democratic process.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Legislator Richard Nicolello. Although our discourse during the campaign was sometimes heated, we remained focused on the issues. Nicolello is a gentleman and I wish him well during the next two years as our legislator. I hope partisanship will be put aside and that Nicolello and the rest of the Republicans will be able to work with the new Democratic majority in the Legislature to solve our county's problems.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my family, and all of those friends who worked so hard on the campaign. Finally, I would like to thank the residents of the 9th Legislative District for their consideration. I knocked on over a thousand doors and met thousands of people at train stations and supermarkets. People were uniformly courteous and willing to listen and discuss the issues. I appreciate that consideration and thank you for your willingness to keep an open mind on the issues.
