Manuel Vargas of Westbury was the victim of a shooting that occurred Sunday, Aug. 22 at 9:00 p.m. in New Cassel.
According to 3rd Squad detectives, the 24-year-old victim was standing on the corner of Prospect Ave. and Sheridan St., when he reportedly became involved in a verbal altercation with the driver of a white car, type and model unknown. The driver of the car then exited the vehicle and fired two rounds from a handgun, striking Vargas in the hand and shoulder.
Vargas was transported to Nassau County Medical Center, East Meadow, by a friend, where he was treated and released. The subject is described only as a black male in a white car. According to Detective Edward Byrnes of the 3rd Squad, there was no known motive for the shooting, although police were continuing their investigation.
