Beatrice M. Rut, of Westbury, died on July 3, 1999. Wife of the late Joseph J. Mother of Beatrice Conrad and Joseph Rut. Grandmother of Michael, Kerry, Stephen, John, Megan and Erin. Arrangements were made by the Donohue Funeral Home, Westbury. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Brigid's RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.

Eleanor M. (Alice) Demmler, of Westbury, died on July 5, 1999. Wife of the late Robert K. Sr. Mother of Diane D. Donovan (Mark), Robert K. Jr., Steven E., Elaine M. Cannon (Mike) and Lawrence J. (Rita). Grandmother of 21. Sister of Frances Bancale (Ed) and Marie Wirth (Al). Arrangements were made by the Donohue Funeral Home Westbury. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Brigid's RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Contributions can be made, in Eleanor Demmler's memory, to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

Robert Ernst, 84, of Westbury, died on July 15, 1999. He was professor of history at Adelphi University for 39 years, author of three books and numerous articles, a member of the Editorial Board of New York History, one of the founders and past president of the Westbury Historical Society, a trustee of the Westbury Memorial Library and a Freedom Writer for Amnesty International. He is survived by Esther, his wife of 49 years; sons David of Lexington, MA and Thomas of Glenside, PA; and grandsons Robert and Paul. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Robert Ernst Memorial Scholarship Fund for Outstanding US History Students, History Dept., Adelphi University, Garden City, NY 11530, c/o Martin Haas. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 2 p.m. at the Ethical Humanist Society, 38 Old Country Rd., Garden City.
