The boy's track team from Westbury High School recently competed in the State Track and Field competition held in Kingston, New York. The team distinguished themselves by finishing second place in the competition that pitted them against the best track teams for the state of New York.

This accomplishment come on the heels of the team's excellent season that produced the team's county championship. Several members on the team turned in performances that earned them a right to compete in the National Track and Field Competition in Raleigh, North Carolina. Úquot;The individual efforts of all the guys benefited the team as a whole,Úquot; said Westbury Track Coach Don Ross. Úquot;Everyone worked hard all year. We are looking forward to competing in the Nationals, but right now I am extremely proud of the team and all that they have accomplished.Úquot;

Westbury will be hoping for another strong performance from Washard Victor, Alistar Alexis, Newton Enarheuba, and Javon Sutton. These members of the 4x4 relay team placed second at the State finals. A second place finish in the shot put competition has Claduay Etrinne looking for more at the Nationals. The other member of the team that earned a chance to compete at the Nationals team Alvin Mitchell, Fillippe Francis, and Ledorne Barron. Members of the Westbury community have contributed funds toward the teams expenses for the trip to North Carolina. All of the members are looking forward to representing Westbury and build on the success of an already satisfying season.

Westbury High School recognized the track team for the track county championship along with the other school sports team at their annual Athletic Awards ceremony. During the awards, Athletic Director presented Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Pinckney with a certificate of appreciation for all the support he has given the track team and the other athletic programs at Westbury.

Other teams that enjoyed successful years were the girls varsity volleyball team and the junior varsity football team who both successfully completed undefeated seasons. The Westbury Tennis team finished second in the conference and second in the county finals and the wrestling team finished first in the division and also had members participate in the county finals.
