Long Island's world class polo players will compete again this year in Chukkars for Children, the annual Save the Children Polo Cup match. Funds raised for this event will go to Save the Children's community-based programs around the world with particular emphasis on the humanitarian crisis in the Balkans.

The Long Island Chapter provided the first Save the Children funds for the refugees from Kosovo. According to the chapter president, M.L. Galston, "Although Save the Children had been working in the region since 1993 when the war in the Balkans escalated, we provided the initial seed money for Save the Children to establish its team to help the refugees in Montenegro." In addition to providing tons of food, clothing and medical supplies, Save the Children workers in this war-torn area are also organizing soccer tournaments for children in the camps in an effort to provide a sense of normalcy in their lives.

Chukkars for Children will be held on Sunday, June 13 at the Meadowbrook Polo Club, Hickox Field, Whitney Lane, Old Westbury. In addition to an exciting polo match, the lovely afternoon garden party will include a children's fashion show presented by the Polo Ralph Lauren store at the Americana in Manhasset, creative hat and tailgate picnic contests, a children's art show sponsored by Noodle Kidoodle, pony rides, a petting zoo and, of course, the traditional Divot Stomp at halftime.

Jane Greenleaf, Mill Neck, is benefit chairman with Oleg Cassini once again lending his support as honorary chairman. Olexa Farrell, New York, is chairman of the junior committee. Corporate sponsors include Polo Ralph Lauren, LaBranche & Co., A&E Television Networks and The History Channel, and Land Rover of Glen Cove, Massapequa, Smithtown and Southampton
