The 1985 NY Islander Alumni Hockey Team won the AA Division Bernier Tournament in Quebec, Canada on Feb. 21. With only one loss to Brantford in the first game of the tournament, the team won successive games against Toronto, Wexford, Zurich and Laval to advance to the consolation finals. The final game against Rochester was 0 to 0 until the Islanders scored the winning goal in overtime. Westbury resident Louis Liotti is a member of the Islander team. Although he plays defense, he scored a goal against Zurich. Liotti is an eighth grade student at the Green Vale School in Glen Head. He also plays on the NY Bobcat Bantam Minor Team and the LI Selects and is a captain on both teams.

The NY Islanders Team was coached by former Islander Gerry Hart and Dan Bedard in Quebec. Hart and Islander alumni Bob Nystrom began the 1985 Islander Alumni team in the spring of 1998. Young Long Island hockey players born in 1985 and 1986 were invited to try out for the team. The team practiced and participated in tournaments during the spring and early summer. Try-outs were held again in the fall and the team practiced weekly, attended the Toronto Bell Cup in December, and played games against other Quebec teams. The International Quebec Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament was the culmination of almost a year of preparation by the players and coaches.

Over 100 teams competed in the 40th Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. They came from as far as Mexico, France, Switzerland, Austria, Russia, and South Africa. Many prep school, college, and professional hockey players have participated in this prestigious tournament. Louis and the NY Islanders Pee-Wee players may become the NHL stars of tomorrow!
