Spotlight event

Tree Lighting

The Westbury tree lighting will take place on Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Community Center, 360 Post Ave., Westbury. The festivities begin at 3:30 p.m. with Zebby's Zoo and friends, at 4:30 p.m. the Westbury HS chorus and "Oompah" band will appear and there will be donuts and hot chocolate. At 5 p.m. the awards for the Halloween window painting contest will be awarded followed by the tree lighting at 5:30.

December 16

Microcosmos. A day in the life of a bug provides the basis for this intriguing feature-length documentary from brilliant French biologists Claude Nuridsany and Marie Perennou. A breathtaking reminder that Mother Nature remains the greatest special effects wizard of all.

Children's Book Week

On Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m. join children's folksinger George Gaines Swanson in the WF Lollis Meeting Room. A banjo folksinger from an island in Maine, Swanson will sing, lead sing-a-longs and share little stories about our familiar folk songs. He has performed across the US as well as in Europe and Africa. Children will be able to try the banjo and spoons, an old American folk instrument. No registration is necessary.

Holiday Folk Festival

December 21

Join the library for a lighthearted and informal afternoon of holiday folk singing by a well grounded student of the art. This program, paying tribute to diverse ethnic backgrounds, ties together the holidays celebrated by people around the world at Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and the Indian Festival of Lights. Dave Sear, a winning performer will entertain. The program starts at 3 p.m.

Vendors Wanted

Vendors are wanted for the East Meadow Jewish Center's bazaar on Dec. 13 from 7:30-11 p.m. and Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. $50 per day, $75 for two days. Contact the east Meadow Jewish Center at 483-4205.

Chamber Music

The Sea Cliff Chamber Players opens its 28th consecutive season of chamber music concerts with a special Baroque and Mozart holiday concert on Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. For information or to order tickets call 671-6263.

Nutcracker Party

The American Ballet Russe presents The Nutcracker Party for children 3 years and older on Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at The Woman's Club of Great Neck, 94 Old Mill Rd., Great Neck. Tickets are $30 for adults and $25 for children. For information call 466-3515.
