Members of the Carle Place Civic Association offered updates on local happenings, including the Roosevelt Field Mall renovations, Homewood Suites and senior housing construction and possible plans for the Nassau County Hub.
CPCA President Peter McDonnell said that a representative from Simon Malls, which owns the Roosevelt Field property, discussed renovation plans with Civic members, and possible plans would include moving the food court and adding several new restaurants and retail stores in the near future.
Regarding the Hub development, McDonnell said a representative from the Nassau County Hub Study organization will speak at the Feb. 15 CPCA meeting to discuss how possible plans may affect the Carle Place area, and specifically, its Long Island Rail Road station.
According to NassauHub.com, the Hub area includes, “Roosevelt Field Mall, Hofstra University, Nassau Community College, Museum Row, Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, the County Government Center and Eisenhower Park. Additionally, the Hub is home to the Villages of Hempstead, Garden City, Mineola and Westbury, with their traditional downtowns containing a mix of commercial and residential areas.” McDonnell noted that construction for the Homewood Suites along Westbury Avenue is moving along and that although the hotel will occupy three of five acres, the developers haven’t released any plans for the other two. Road re-construction between Rushmore Avenue and Jamaica Boulevard, McDonnell explained, will start again in March, as will the first phases of building for the senior housing center in Carle Place on Westbury Avenue (across from Rialto).
TNH Clerk Leslie Gross highlighted some upcoming programs that the town is running, including a vow renewing ceremony on Feb. 14 at the Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington. The luncheon will take place at 11 a.m. and any interested participants can contact the town at 869-7646.
Gross also reminded residents to remain up-to-date on dog licensing. Forms can be obtained at the towns website, www.northhempsteadny.gov or by calling the clerk’s office at 869-7655.
McDonnell also said that TattooYou (formerly located on Westbury Avenue in Carle Place) closed and moved to Manhattan. The CPCA is also seeking members; any residents interested may visit www.cpcivicassociation.com or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. “I would ask all of our residents to please consider joining our group in 2012 so that we can reach the almost 700 members we had only a few years ago. In addition to allowing us to provide more programs, a strong membership is noted by all politicians when we contact them about issues affecting our towns,” McDonnell said in his January president’s message.

The show must go on – and starting this fall, Westbury residents should have plenty of shows from which to choose.
With a nearly decade-long dream coming to fruition, developer Cyrus Hakakian of Roslyn and his partners plan to part the curtains for the multi-purpose Westbury Performing Arts Center sometime this fall.
