Every summer, the Town of Hempstead’s Summer Concert Series, hosted by the Department of Parks and Recreation, brings talented musicians to perform at the town’s neighborhood parks. Our lineup this year features an exciting range of musical genres, from the smooth sounds of Sinatra and classic rock to the Doo-Wop hits of the 1960s and the hip-swinging hits of Elvis.
Listed below are the free outdoor concerts taking place this August. All shows begin at 8 p.m. unless otherwise noted, and it is recommended that those planning to attend the concerts bring their own lawn chairs and beach blankets.
Tuesday, Aug. 2 – You ain’t nothing but a Hound Dog wearin’ Blue Suede Shoes on “Elvis Night” with Vintage Elvis at Echo Park, West Hempstead.
Wednesday, Aug. 3 – We’re Reelin’ in the Years with Stealin’ Dan in a Steely Dan Tribute at Averill Boulevard Park, Elmont.
Thursday, Aug. 4 – Rock ‘n’ roll fans can Remember Then with Larry Chance & the Earls at Rath Park, Franklin Square.
Friday, Aug. 5 – Bad Medicine is Livin on a Prayer with a Bon Jovi Tribute at Speno Park, East Meadow.
Tuesday, Aug. 9 - Vintage Bliss relives the hits of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Bobby Darin at Rock Hall Museum in Lawrence.
Wednesday, Aug. 10 – Every Breath You Take and Roxanne highlight the Invisible Sun Police Tribute at Seamans Neck Park in Seaford.
Thursday, Aug. 11 – Hometown girl Carolyn Harding sings R&B, pop and gospel music at Roosevelt Pool, Roosevelt.
Friday, Aug. 12 – Gathering Time plays classic Woodstock Era folk music at Shell Creek Park, Barnum Isle.
Tuesday, Aug. 16 – Remembering the hits Cinderella and Till Then with Emil Stucchio & the Classics at Hewlett Point Park, Bay Park.
Wednesday, Aug. 17 – Glass Houses, A Billy Joel Tribute starring piano man Henry Haid of Broadway’s “Movin Out” and “Astronomy Under the Stars” with Dr. Donald Lubowich at East Village Green, Levittown. Dr. Lubowich will be on site and offer stargazing for adults and children with telescope observations of the moon, Saturn, Jupiter, star clusters and nebulae.
Thursday, Aug. 18 –Don’t Stop Believin’ in Evolution during a Tribute to Journey at Merrick Road Park, Merrick.
Friday, Aug. 19 – Enjoy the hardest working (24/7) rock ‘n’ roll band on Long Island, the incomparable Killer Joe & The Lido Soul Revue in concert at Newbridge Road Park, Bellmore at 6:30 p.m. Then enjoy the hit movie Furry Vengeance under the stars.
Saturday, Aug. 20 – LAR Enterprises presents the sounds of Doo Wop Night at 7 p.m. at Merrick Road Park, Merrick.
