Pet Adoption Program

Hempstead Town is once again holding its “Summer of Love” pet adoption program now until Aug. 22. During this time, the town is waiving a complement of fees at Hempstead Town’s Animal Shelter for pets that are adopted during the summer season. By waiving adoption fees and other charges, residents can experience the joy of pet ownership without the financial burden.

We will be eliminating all adoption fees, including the cost of vaccinations, and all spaying and neutering services as well. Once an animal finds a new home and a loving family, we want to guarantee their safety so we are also micro chipping our pets to provide a free method of identification in the event they are lost.

The joy of the pet adoption experience will be made even more special thanks to our friends at Mutts and Butts in Merrick. Through their generosity, every adopted pet will leave the animal shelter with a free toy or treat to bring with them to their new home.

Anyone interested in viewing pets that are available for adoption can visit Hempstead Town’s website at www.TOH.LI and use the Petfinder link. Additionally, the town invites pet lovers to visit the animal shelter at 3320 Beltagh Avenue in Wantagh. Office hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. For more information, prospective pet owners can call the shelter at 785-5220.

Last summer we broke all adoption records by helping 415 pets find new homes and it would certainly be wonderful if we could set a new record this year. Once again, we have partnered with our good friends at KJOY 98.3 FM to find summer love for as many pets as possible.

The Summer of Love pet adoption program is the perfect way to fill your life with joy, and you can also ensure that a wonderful pet experiences a warm and caring home environment.
