We are in the midst of hurricane season, which runs from June to November, and with the change in climate, experts have cautioned that Long Island has an increased potential to be hit by a major hurricane this year. It is important for everyone to be prepared, especially residents in the Town of Hempstead.
(LIRRCC released the following statement.)
The Long Island Rail Road Commuter Council (LIRRCC) has called upon the MTA, the State of New York, and Nassau County to intensify their efforts to craft an equitable solution to preserve Long Island Bus service. Preliminary MTA budget materials released last week call for the discontinuation of MTA funding for Long Island Bus operations, which, if no further action is taken by these parties, would spell the end of most if not all Long Island Bus service.
The Town of Hempstead is not only a great place to live and work, but it is also a terrific place to visit. Our Office of Tourism is available to provide information and assistance to residents and the many tourists who visit each year.
I’m sure everyone knows at least one very special person who is always doing for others and never asking for anything in return. He or she may be a neighbor, a friend, or a relative. When thinking about this person, you may ask yourself, where does he or she get the energy or time to volunteer for so many activities?
Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey announced recently that as a result of a joint investigation with the IRS, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York-Brooklyn, the Nassau County Police Department Asset Forfeiture Unit seized over 20,000 counterfeit athletic shoes that have a real value of approximately $85 a pair, which values the seizure at approximately $1.7 million. The seizure came out of a 2008 case where two individuals where arrested and charged with crimes such as Trafficking in Counterfeit Goods or Services and Money Laundering.
Every summer, the Town of Hempstead’s Summer Concert Series, hosted by the Department of Parks and Recreation, brings talented musicians to perform at the town’s neighborhood parks. Our lineup this year features an exciting range of musical genres, from the smooth sounds of Sinatra and classic rock to the Doo-Wop hits of the 1960s and the hip-swinging hits of Elvis.
While summer brings some fun in the sun, especially in our backyard pools, it is important to practice pool safety and prevent accidental drownings. Before the summer even officially began on June 21, three Long Island children had already drowned in homeowner swimming pools.
Political Signs in July for November? Do these signs tell us anything about the person the town is putting forth, or is this just a way to protect the status quo? It seems the Town of Hempstead political machine is getting a head start on the political races for November. Funny how the town claims to be about a suburban lifestyle yet they have no problem littering our neighborhoods with these lawn signs.
