The Kiwanis Club of West Hempstead will be honoring Robert (Bob) Smith, past president of the Kiwanis Club of West Hempstead at their 16th annual dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 7 to 9 PM, at the Pompei Restaurant, 401 Hempstead Avenue., West Hempstead.
Robert (Bob) Smith was a longtime West Hempstead resident, a past president and secretary of the West Hempstead Kiwanis Club who passed away recently. His friends, family, and fellow Kiwanis community know how tireless he worked for the Kiwanis Club of West Hempstead and how he supported the residents of West Hempstead. Bob was generous in his donations, time and spirit to the community.
In Bob’s honor, The Kiwanis Club of West Hempstead would like to announce an annual Community Service Award, which will make funds available to students of West Hempstead who demonstrate the spirit of Bob Smith through support of West Hempstead civic or cultural events.
The Kiwanis Club of West Hempstead will administer the award. Students should write an essay detailing their participation or leadership in West Hempstead organizations or charitable events and how they served the West Hempstead community.
This year we will fund the award through proceeds and donations from our Pasta Night Dinner at Pompeii Restaurant in West Hempstead. The Kiwanis Club also received generous donations in memory of Bob from friends, family and associates in West Hempstead.
The Kiwanis Club of West Hempstead unlimited dinner buffet will consist of salad, meatballs, various pastas, dessert and coffee. There will also be raffles with some great prizes. In addition, there will be music during dinner for your listening pleasure.
The Kiwanis Club has donated money from past activities to send needy children to camp, endowed scholarship funds for West Hempstead High School students, donated funds for The West Hempstead Middle School’s Library and supported The Long Island Leukemia Society.
The Kiwanis Club will have a table with literature on some of the programs that Kiwanis participates in locally, nationally and internationally. There will also be Kiwanis members available to answer any questions that you may have about Kiwanis as well as applications for those who would like to consider membership.
This will be a unique opportunity to socialize with your friends and neighbors from the community and to participate in honoring Robert (Bob) Smith. The cost of the dinner is only $25 for adults and $15 for children under 12, which includes tax and gratuities.
The Kiwanis Club of West Hempstead looks forward to seeing you at this year’s pasta dinner. While you can pay at the door, reservations are encouraged. For more information please call John McAulife at (516) 375-6450.
