In the spirit of celebration the nation’s independence, Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell announced a program to benefit those who have served to preserve independence.
O’Connell announced that any veteran who files his or her discharge papers, also known as DD214 papers, will receive a discount card that can be used for local businesses that are participating in the program. O’Connell also said that the Office of the Nassau County Clerk will safeguard the DD214 papers free of charge so that they are available when the veterans of members of his or her family need them.
There are currently 75,000 veterans in Nassau County and thousands more who returned or will be returning from service. O’Connell believes it is important for veterans to file their discharge papers with the county clerk’s office so that they will be available when needed.
The Nassau County Clerk’s Office is located at 240 Old Country Road in Mineola. The following are some of the local businesses that are participating in the program and the discount they are offering:
