The 2008-2009 Carey High School boys' basketball team were co-conference champions in the highly competitive AA-II Conference. This is all the more remarkable since the team came off of a last place finish the previous year in the same conference. This year's team was 14-4, which is the most wins by a Carey team in recent history. The team came back from a two game deficit to tie Port Washington for the co-championship. Carey was led by co-captains Phillip Leidner and Brian Combs.

After such a successful season, it is no surprise that the team did very well in post-season awards. All-Conference awards went to Phillip Leidner, Jasjit Dhillon, and Luke Zahradka. All-County honors went to Terrance Murchie, who led the team in scoring. The team was also helped by the defense of Steven Matthew, the rebounding and hustling of Murtaza Dawoodbhai and the team spirit created by Kevin Scott.

When asked about his team's performance, head coach Marty Kelly said, "This team exceeded all expectations and goes down as one of the best in Carey history."
