An 18-year-old West Hempstead teen was arrested after allegedly throwing an aerosol can through the rear passenger-side window of a News 4 van while it was stopped at a traffic light on Nassau Boulevard and Johnson Avenue, police said.

According to police, the teen became agitated at having been approached for information by a News 4 reporter.

The can struck the torso of a technical engineer in the vehicle and then shattered a Plexiglas cabinet, causing further injury to the victim's hand, police said. The engineer received stitches in his hand.

The teen was charged with third degree assault and fourth degree criminal mischief.

West Hempstead High School has been in the media after a car accident on Thursday claimed the lives of two students.
