Do you know a veteran who has volunteered his or her time for the betterment of his or her brethren? If so, you might be interested to know that Hempstead Town is now accepting nominations for its 2008 Veterans Medal.
The medal is awarded annually to veterans who continued their commitment to the betterment of our country by volunteering their time to help other veterans. Past medal honorees have been recognized for various volunteer activities such as visiting veterans' hospitals, assisting veterans with their benefit inquiries and organizing luncheons for hospitalized and needy vets.
Entries must include the supporting documentation of the nominee's volunteer activities and the name and address of both the nominee and the nominator. Each entry must include a copy of the nominee's DD214 or discharge. Only Town of Hempstead residents are eligible for the town's veterans' medal. The Town of Hempstead Veterans Medal Committee will select the winners.

Winners will be notified by mail and presented with their medals at the annual Town of Hempstead Salute to Veterans ceremony at Town Park Point Lookout on Saturday, June 28, 2008.
