A Nassau County Police officer shot and killed a Westbury man after the suspect came toward two officers with a knife is his hand.

According to police, the officers responded to Francis Lewis Deli Bakery on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont on the morning of Wednesday, March 12.

Police said the suspect shattered a front window to enter the premises, where a lone female employee was preparing to open the store. According to a police report, two fifth precinct officers responded and made repeated requests to the suspect who, police said, was wielding a knife to drop the knife.

According to police, one of the two officers who responded fatally shot the suspect. The suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Lelis Bonilla.
