A 17-year-old student of West Hempstead High School was assaulted in the parking lot in the rear of the school, police said.
Police investigate the scene where a train struck a woman in Malverne.
According to police, on Feb. 5 at noon, the student was seated in a car with three friends in the parking lot when a 17-year-old Island Park man drove up in another vehicle and engaged the victim in a verbal altercation. Police said the Island Park man exited his vehicle, pulled the victim out of the passenger door and proceeded to punch him and stab him with a four-inch knife. The victim was treated at Mercy Hospital Medical Center and released. Police arrested the Island Park man at his home. He was charged with second degree assault, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana. Police said there has been friction between the two students for many years. A 22-year-old Bronx woman was killed by a Long Island Railroad equipment train in Malverne west of the West Hempstead train station on Friday morning, Jan. 26. The cause of death is under investigation.
