The date the resume the hearing of the Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning and appeals for an application for Omnipoint to erect a 65-foot cell phone tower at 340 Dogwood Avenue. However, the organization comprised of local residents that was formed to fight the application is trying to raise money for its efforts.

The Franklin Square United Neighborhood Association, in cooperation with Steiner Sports, will be holding a "Say No to T-Mobile Online Auction featuring Stein Sports collectibles and sports memorabilia.

Some of the items that are available to be bid on include signed collectibles from some of New York's brightest sports stars, a Giants helmet signed by the '86 team and a Jets helmet signed by the '69 team. There will also be products and services from local merchants.

In order to bid, go to steinersports.com between Nov. 14 and 28.

The profits will go towards fighting the application. The Franklin Square United Neighborhood Association has incurred legal fees in its fight against the wireless company. The association hired Tom McKevitt, former deputy town attorney and current Assemblyman in the 17th District, to present its case that the tower would have a negative impact on the community and the cell phone company hasn't showed a need for it.
