Nassau Police are investigating an incident of reckless endangerment that occurred in West Hempstead on September 7 at 11:20 pm.

According to police, an unknown person or persons fired six rounds from an unknown caliber firearm and struck an occupied residence on Nassau Boulevard. Police said five of the rounds penetrated the residence and disabled the phone service. Minor structural damage occurred and a female victim and her three sons were uninjured, according to police.

A 40-year-old Elmont man was struck while walking west across Plainfield Avenue towards the Belmont Racetrack on Friday, Sept. 8 at 11:08 p.m.

According to police, as the victim was walking from east to west, he was struck by a dark-colored vehicle traveling south, which continued to Hempstead Turnpike. Police said the driver was female.

The victim was transported to Winthrop-University Hospital, where he is serious condition with severe head and chest trauma. A hospital spokesman said on Tuesday that the victim was in critical condition.

A West Hempstead man surrendered to police on Monday after he was accused of firing shots into a parked 2005 Dodge Magnum in Lakeview.

According to police, on Friday, Sept. 8 at 10:55 a.m., three shots from a shotgun were fired into the vehicle, causing damage to the front headlight, windshield, front hood and driver's side dashboard. Police said the damage was in excess of $1,500 and there were no injuries.

Police arrested Merciful N. Johnson, 20, and charged him with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and illegally discharging a firearm.
