Residents of the North Valley Stream and East Franklin Square Library District will vote on Sept. 14 on what library they will be members of as contracts with their current libraries are due to expire.
In the case of the North Valley Stream Library District, residents of that district currently belong to the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library as the district has a contract with that library. However, the contract is due to expire on Dec. 31.
Residents of the North Valley Stream Library District will have an opportunity to remain in with the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library or join the Elmont Public Library or Malverne Public Library. The library that receives the most votes will get a four-year contract with the library district.
In the case of East Franklin Square Library District, residents currently belong to the Elmont Library. However, that contract is due to expire as well on Dec. 31.
Residents will have the option of remaining with the Elmont Library or joining the Malverne Public Library or Franklin Square Public Library. The library with the most votes will also receive a four-year contract with that library district.
The special election will occur on Thursday, Sept. 14 from noon to 9 p.m. at your regular polling location. Absentee ballots are available from the Office of the Town Attorney by contacting Deputy Town Attorney Eugene Ferencik at 489-5000 ext. 3202.
"The approval of a library funding district for 2007 through 2010 will afford residents continuing access to borrowing privileges and all of the other library services and benefits that they have received since the library districts were first established in 2003," said Councilman Ed Ambrosino.
