Women of Distinction Awards Brings Out Community
The fourth annual "Women of Distinction Awards" packed the Clara H. Carlson School this past Saturday where Assemblyman Tom Alfano honored women for their professional, volunteer and unsung efforts at improving quality of life and being role models for our next generation of young people. Alfano called the fourth installment "the best yet and a true, positive community-building event for the community.

Town BZA to Hear Application for Cell Tower Next Month
Alfano Leads Charge Against Tower on Franklin Square Site --
The Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning and Appeals (BZA) will hear an application next month from Omnipoint, a wireless cellular phone company, to erect a 65-foot high light pole for cellular six antennas and equipment cabinets on the ground in Franklin Square. The proposed pole, which the application calls a "stealth light pole," would be installed on the west side of Dogwood Avenue, north of Cornell Road running through to Ribbon Street.
