An SUV struck and killed a West Hempstead man who was operating a motorized scooter on July 21 at 4:05 p.m. in Lakeview, police said.
According to police, 23-year-old Alexis D. Robles, was operating a Sun Star motorized miniscooter southbound on Harrison Street. While crossing over Eagle Avenue in West Hempstead, police said he was struck by an SUV traveling eastbound in the intersection.
Police said after the accident, the SUV fled the scene eastbound on Eagle Avenue without the driver properly identifying himself or herself. Robles was transported to Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:44 p.m.

Police have arrested a Forest Hills man for allegedly fondling a 12-year-old girl while giving her piano lessons.
According to police, Malcolm D. Brenner, 68, was privately employed as a piano teacher for a West Hempstead family for approximately a year. Police allege that while giving a piano lesson to a 12-year-old girl, he fondled her.
He was arrested on July 21 at 10:15 p.m. and charged with first degree sexual abuse, two counts of second degree sexual abuse, two counts of forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child.
A man held up a gas station attendant with a gun during a robbery early Sunday morning, July 23, in Franklin Square.
According to police, at 3:10 a.m., the suspect approached the 23-year-old attendant at a Sunoco Gas Station on Franklin Avenue, and asked to buy cigarettes. According to police, while the attendant was retrieving the cigarettes, the suspect produced a handgun and demanded money. The attendant handed over cash and the suspect left and was last seen on foot heading northbound on Franklin Avenue, police said.
The suspect is described as a white male, 5'10," in his early 20s, wearing a baggy T-shirt, blue jeans and a light blue striped baseball cap.

Police are also investigating a robbery that occurred on July 22 at 10:50 p.m. at a gas station in Elmont.
According to police, the attendant at Petroleum USA on Linden Boulevard unlocked the door for a customer to purchase beer and shortly thereafter, two subjects entered. One of them, armed with a handgun, allegedly punched the attendant in the head and demanded cash while the other one remained by the door watching the customer, police said.
The attendant gave up the cash from his pocket and then opened the register at which point, the subjects moved behind the counter to empty the register into a cigar box, police said.
Both subjects left and entered a dark-colored, four-door vehicle with a sunroof, tinted windows and silver rims, police said. The customer who was uninjured left the store prior to the police arriving.
One subject is described as a black male, early 20s, 6'0," stocky build, wearing a black doo-rag, red bandana partially covering his face, dark T-shirt, light-colored cargo sweats with two red vertical stripes towards the bottoms of the legs, white Nike sneakers with a black logo, white latex gloves and armed with a silver automatic handgun.
The other subject is described as a black male, early 20s, 5'8"-5'9," thin build, wearing a black doo-rag, a red bandana covering his face, medium gray T-shirt, blue jeans, black sneakers and black gloves.
