John Kenny, a centerfielder for Valley Stream North High School and a resident of Franklin Square, has been named to the Nassau County roster for the second annual HIP Grand Slam Challenge high school baseball all-star game. The game will be held at Citibank Park, home of the 2004 Atlantic League champion Ducks, on Saturday, June 10, at 7:35 p.m (with gates opening at 5:30 p.m.).

John has played varsity baseball for four years. He was also on the East Coast Hawks travel team and was the Connie Mack All Star for 2005. He is a News 12 scholar athlete.

The two teams comprise some 36 players chosen by the sports staff of Newsday. Players are all seniors in good academic standing, were previously selected to Newsday's All-Long Island Team, and were outstanding contributors to their high school programs. The Suffolk County team will be coached by Carmine Argenziano, formerly with Deer Park. Over his 30-year tenure, his teams posted a 474-221 record, winning three Long Island titles and three Suffolk County championships. Doug Robins of Levittown (Division) will be at the helm for Nassau's squad. Over his coaching career, the 30-year Division skipper owns a 687-154-7, while winning two state championships and seven Long Island titles.

The Grand Slam Challenge is sponsored by HIP Health Plan of New York, with proceeds benefiting the QuackerJack Foundation, the charitable arm of the Ducks.

Tickets to the event are $5 and can be purchased by visiting the Citibank Park box office or by phone at 631 940-TIXX.
