Nassau County Legislator John Ciotti announced victory in his fight to procure $2.7 million for revitalization and community beautification in Elmont. According to Legislator Ciotti's office, the Nassau County capital plan has been amended to include the much needed funding for Elmont.
According to Legislator Ciotti's office, the Nassau County capital spending plan is approximately $100 million and including funding for roads, bridges, downtown revitalization and other infrastructure improvements throughout the county. The original plan, according to Ciotti's office, did not include any funding for Elmont's downtown areas.
"When the county administration first announced its capital spending plan, Elmont was left out. That was unacceptable," said Ciotti. "It's hard to believe but the original county capital spending proposal did not include a single dollar for the beautification and revitalization of the downtown areas of Elmont."
According to Ciotti's office, the funding will be utilized over the next 18 months to beautify areas on Dutch Broadway and Elmont Road. Ciotti said he would be working closely with Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray, Councilman Ed Ambrosino and Councilman James Darcy to identify specific sections of Dutch Broadway and Elmont Road that would most benefit from the funding.
"This program will really enhance the appearance for much of Elmont's downtown commercial and shopping areas. Sidewalks will be rebuilt, benches added, decorative waste receptacles installed and decorative Victorian lighting erected to give the entire area a fresh new look," Ciotti said.
