Due to the snow storm, the Elmont Online-ECAP third annual Black History Month Celebration had to be cancelled. However, the event has been rescheduled for Sunday, March 12 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The new location of the celebration will be the Mixed Notes Café at 333 Elmont Road.

The celebration still promises to be eventful, informative and entertaining. Featured performances include the Elmont Schools' Jazz Band, SUNY New Paltz Poetry Slam Team Champion Lee Riley and others. This year's honoree to receive the prestigious Dr. Carter G. Woodson Award is Sandra Ifill, a longtime resident and retired Elmont teacher. Also receiving awards are Richard A. Mastricola and Randall Clarke. They will be awarded the 21st Assembly District Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award by Assemblyman Tom Alfano.

The event is free and open to the public. However, seating is limited so reservations must be made no later than March 7. For reservations and more information, contact the events committee at 327-9206 or email to blackhistorymonth@elmont.org.
