Assemblyman Tom Alfano announced that the New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is now accepting applications for four $1,500 scholarships to be awarded in June. Alfano is a member of the organization.

"This scholarship can be a great help to students who are about to enter college. I'm real proud to be one of the sponsors of this higher education opportunity for young people," he said.

This year, the Italian-American State Legislators Conference will be awarding the four scholarships to current or future college students from New York State - two scholarships for academic achievement and two scholarships for athletics.

All applications must be received by 5 p.m. on April 15 in order for recipients to be considered for the new academic year beginning in the fall. Eligibility will be based on several factors including a student's grade point average, their achievements in sports, their involvement in the local community as well as their financial need.
