Third Squad detectives report the details of an arrest for a larceny that occurred Jan. 26 at 7:30 a.m. in East Garden City.
According to detectives, the defendant, Bernard Jenkins, 50, of Elmont, a Nassau County Department of Public Works employee, allegedly stole numerous traffic signs valued over $1,000 from the Nassau County Department of Public Works Traffic Operations building located at Mitchel Field in Garden City.
On Feb. 1, Garden City police arrested the defendant on an unrelated VTL charge during which numerous traffic signs were recovered from the defendant's vehicle. On Feb. 2, the defendant was arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny. His arraignment was scheduled for Feb. 3 in First District Court in Hempstead.
According to police, on Feb. 4 at 8:35 p.m., an unknown male subject wearing a ski mask and armed with a handgun entered a deli/bodega on Savoy Avenue in Elmont and demanded cash from the counterperson.
Police said the victim complied and the subject fled with undetermined proceeds. There were no injuries reported.
Police are looking for a suspect described as a black male, 5'9'' tall and with a medium build. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
According to police, at 10:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, approximately 15 people approached two male victims while walking from Sewanhaka High School
One of the 15 people approaches both victims and snatched a gold chain off each of their necks, police said.
According to police, the victims saw the defendant at a gas station in Elmont and called police.
Nassau Police arrested Jorel L. Pernell, 19, of Floral Park, police said. No proceeds were recovered. Police said the defendant was fond to be in a possession of a gravity knife. He was charged with two counts of Robbery 1st Degree and one county of Possession of a Dangerous Weapon 4th Degree.
According to police, two suspects entered the attendant's booth of the Emporium Gas Station, located on Elmont Road. One of the suspects displayed a handgun and demanded money, police said. The attendant gave the suspects cash and then searched his jacket pockets, removing additional cash from them, police said. The suspects then took money from a desk drawer and fled on foot. There were no injuries.
