A verbal altercation at an Elmont night club ended in shots being fired, although no one was hit with a bullet. However, one man was treated after being hit on the head with an unknown object.

According to police, on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 4:43 a.m., during a party at Club Rum, 1325 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont, an Hispanic male who is described as being 25-30-years-old and wearing a black T-shirt, was involved in a verbal altercation that ended up in the parking lot.

Police said the man struck a 33-year-old man on the head with an unknown object and then fired three to four rounds from a semi-automatic handgun toward the victim.

The subject then entered a 1993-1996 black Honda hatchback and fled the scene, police said. None of the shots tired struck any person and police recovered one round from the scene.

The victim was transported to Franklin Hospital, where he was treated and released.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives ask anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

Police arrested an Elmont man in connection with the attempted robbery of a Franklin Square Citibank.

According to police, on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 12:48 p.m., Clarence Byrd, 42, of Elmont, allegedly entered Citbank, located at 1060 Hempstead Turnpike, approached the teller and demanded money.

Police allege that the teller refused the request and walked away from the workstation into the assistant manager's office to report the robbery.

According to police, Byrd fled the bank on foot without any proceeds and was immediately followed by a bank employee. Police said Byrd was stopped one block northwest of the bank by an off-duty New York City police officer and a retired New York City police officer who were present at the bank during the alleged incident.

Police said Byrd was detained until the arrival of the Nassau County Fifth Precinct officers and was placed under arrest without incident. Police said there was no weapon displayed at any time and no injuries reported.

There were eight employees and seven customers present at the time of the alleged incident.

Byrd was charged with third degree attempted robbery.
