Young Israel of West Hempstead to Celebrate 50th Anniversary
It was a half a decade ago, in 1955, that a small group of visionary families tapped into their pioneering spirit and joined together to found an Orthodox synagogue in what was then the "wilds of Long Island." This new kehilla was to be known as the West Hempstead Synagogue and would hold it services in the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County, which had been established only two years earlier.

Detectives Investigating Rape, Kidnap
Police are investigating an alleged abduction and rape that occurred on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in Elmont. The victim, according to police, is a 15-year-old girl.
