  • News: Elmont Man Accused of Being an Online Predator

    Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon announced that the DA's Technology Crime Unit arrested Abner Melendez, 34, of Meacham Avenue, Elmont on Wednesday, Oct.12 at approximately 4:30 p.m. Melendez is accused of having sexually explicit conversations with a person who he believed was a 14-year-old female. In addition, Melendez is accused of agreeing to meet the "14-year-old female" for the purposes of engaging in sexual activity. FULL STORY

  • News: Audit Says Full-Time Salaries for Part-Time Work

    An audit of Hempstead's Sanitary District #6 has found that the district's refuse collectors routinely work about 25 hours a week or less, but are paid full-time salaries, Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman said. The audit also found that financial controls in the district were nearly non-existent, with no timekeeping for the district's 200-plus employees and no competitive bidding for goods and services purchased.
