Using the Nassau County police parked outside the library to prevent and intimidate Mr. Levinson from exercising his constitutional right to freedom of speech at a public venue is an absolute outrage.
The library board's pathetic actions epitomize the problems confronting Nassau County residents. The lack of shame and humility on the part of public servants who abuse their power is an affront to the entire community. The library board should be removed immediately. An audit of the library board is also advisable. Any local, elected official who condones such fascist actions should take notice that the hard-working taxpayers of the community will not tolerate such behavior.
The economic reality of today demands that open public discourse to solve Nassau County's problems need to be encouraged, not squelched. Proposed solutions to our sky high tax burden should be welcomed.
Board president Rev. Fred McElderry, William Youngfert, Patricia Galaskas and the other trustees who nixed Levinson's Sept. 15 appearance are not deserving of the public's trust.
