For the Franklin Square School District, the second time proved to be a charm. On Monday, the residents of Franklin Square passed a revised budget for the 2005-2006 school year after the district saw its first budget fail last month.
The Franklin Square Board of Education voted to reduce the budget by nearly $300,000 from the budget that was submitted to voters back in May.
The cuts include three teacher positions, a teacher assistant, a teacher aide and textbooks for grades one and two. At the June 1 meeting of the board of education, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Timothy Lafferty said that class sizes raised would most likely be in the primary grades to the tune of 25 students.
The school district now has a $27,292,195 budget in place for the next school year, which represents an increase of 6.2 percent in spending over the 2004-2005 budget and a 4 percent increase in the tax levy, which is the amount of the budget to be raised by taxes.
