Nassau County Homicide Detectives are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred in Franklin Square on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 6:25 p.m.
According to detectives, Dennis Bhola, 31, an employee of Pro Auto on Franklin Avenue was test driving a 1995 Chevrelot Impala northbound on Franklin Avenue when he was in a collision with a 1996 Toyota sedan operated by Natalie Susan Oxman of Franklin Square, who was attempting to make a left onto Fenworth Boulevard. The Chevrolet then veered to the right and struck two pedestrians walking southbound on Franklin Avenue crossing Fenworth Boulevard, police said. The Chevrolet continued and came to rest in the side window of Jayson Drugs, located at 191 Franklin Avenue, according to police.
The Nassau County Police Department ambulance transported Jose Acosta, 30 of Hempstead, to Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, where he was pronounced dead at 6:59 p.m.
The other pedestrian, Santos Juarez, 36, of Jamaica, was also transported to Winthrop, where he was admited with head, chest and lower extremity injuries in critical condition. Oxman, who suffered a back injury, was treated and released at Mercy Medical Center.
Both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety checks.
According to police, there is no indication that drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident. Detectives are investigating whether the speed of the Chevrolet was a contributing factor.
