Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray was assisted by Santa Claus, Kenneth Albarran, the son of a U.S. soldier, and members of the town board in lighting the Christmas tree, Menorah and Kwanzaa Kinara at a holiday celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at Town Hall Plaza. In addition to the traditional holiday symbols, the Plaza was also adorned with a lovely snowman ice sculpture that was donated to the town by Ice Sculpture Designs.

"Reflecting on our blessings, thinking about family and embracing the holiday spirit are all part of the season," said Murray. "The holiday season is a wonderful time of year, only made better by the generosity I see all around me."

The Supervisor noted that town residents and employees have demonstrated the spirit of the season in many different ways. From donations of time and food at the Interfaith Nutrition Network and donations of coats and toys for needy children at town hall to raising money for the March of Dimes, residents and town employees have exemplified the spirit of giving. "I want to thank the town's CSEA Local 880, for again sponsoring the toy collection in concert with the Salvation Army," said the Supervisor. "I would also like to acknowledge Randy's Dry Cleaners of Mineola for partnering with the town in collecting winter coats for children."

Residents and employees had the opportunity to donate coats and toys and buy Beanie Babies from the March of Dimes at the town hall holiday celebration.

In addition to the holiday lighting, there was a visit from Santa atop an antique fire engine and entertainment provided by Jackson Main Elementary School.

"My personal wish for you and your loved ones is a safe season filled with love and joy and the holiday spirit," concluded Murray.
