Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Edward Ambrosino announced that New York Senator Michael Balboni has been working to secure state grant money to fund a town road improvement project in Elmont. The project is planned for Belmont Boulevard and Atherton Avenue in Elmont. The enhancements will provide increased safety for area residents and beautify the neighborhood.
"The town wants to thank Senator Balboni for pursuing $200,000 in grant funding to ensure that this priority project comes to fruition," said Murray. "Improving Hempstead Town's infrastructure is essential to making certain that our communities remain great places in which to live and raise families," added Ambrosino.
The road improvement project will include the construction of new concrete curbs, concrete driveway aprons, installation of pedestrian access ramps at all intersections, new asphalt pavement and the restoration of disturbed grass areas. The project area includes Belmont Boulevard between Hempstead Turnpike and Johnson Avenue. Atherton Avenue will also be part of the project between Belmont Boulevard and Sewanee Avenue.
"It's exciting when various levels of government work together to enhance the quality of life enjoyed by residents," commented Balboni. "Clear benefits of this project will include the upgrading of the infrastructure and the reduction of repair and maintenance costs."
During the construction process, the town and its contractor will take all possible measures to limit the inconvenience to residents. However, at times during the renovation work some traffic interruption and temporary disuse of sidewalks and driveways may occur.
"The town is grateful to Senator Balboni for helping to fund ongoing projects which will beautify and improve our local neighborhoods," concluded Murray.
